Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes several notable changes:
- Each team has only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides more options for gamers looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are upset.
Player Responses: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Concerns and Player Input
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the community meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
If the development team has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
